Apple’s debut in the foldable market was always going to have an impact on Android foldables, with many brands having been optimistic that it would have a positive ripple effect. For Samsung, that appears to be true, as the company says that interest in its Galaxy Z Fold 8 remains significantly higher following the iPhone Duo’s announcement.
Speaking to Forbes, Samsung’s UK VP over mobile said that demand for Galaxy Z Fold 8 has risen following the debut of iPhone Duo, with search interest even higher — apparently up by 300%.
Samsung’s foldable momentum is undeniable… Customer demand for the Galaxy Z Fold8 family has increased 16% since launch, and with a 300% increase in active Google searches for Samsung foldables in the last month alone, our market leadership is stronger than ever.
It’s not hard to imagine why this might be the case.
Apple’s massive and loyal fanbase means that the launch of iPhone Duo put foldables under the spotlight for effectively the first time for a lot of potential buyers, so it only makes sense that at least a portion of those users are curious to see what else is out there. Samsung’s lower prices and more refined design might also have a few folks interested enough to give the alternative a shot.
Galaxy Z Fold 8 is currently available for $1,699 on Amazon, $300 less than iPhone Duo, while Samsung.com is offering the Fold 8 for even less than that, with a special discount on the 1TB trim that offers the device for just $50 more than Apple’s base 256GB model.
